A former Enron trader and the founder of his own Houston-based hedge fund has listed his Memorial-area mansion for $24.5 million.

The property at 9030 Sandringham Drive is owned by Michael Maggi and his wife, Erin. Michael Maggi is a former Enron trader who then spent time at Centaurus Capital, the hedge fund founded by noted Houston philanthropist John Arnold, before founding Goldfinch Capital.

Compass agents Mike Mahlstedt and Katie Forney listed the property on the Maggis' behalf. It's the second most expensive property to be listed in greater Houston this year.

Mahlstedt said the property has a number of qualities that set it apart from some of the other high-end listings in the area.

The modern-style home sits on 2.2 acres and features more than 25,000 square feet of living space, including two standalone guest suites. Altogether, the property includes eight bedrooms and 15 bathrooms.

“The area where the property is located is in this little pocket of Houston, which is rare in that it has lots that are a minimum of 2 acres, but it is still within a short drive of the central business district and the Galleria area,” Mahlstedt said.

The Maggis bought the lot at 9030 Sandringham in 2006 and spent five years building the house. The Maggi family lived in the home for about eight years before moving to California.

Mahlstedt added that when the Maggis built the home, they did so with their four children in mind.

In addition to designer lighting, top-tier finishes and the finest hardware, the home comes with a number of family-friendly amenities.

The children’s suites include separate areas for studying and “hanging out” next to their bedrooms, Mahlstedt said.

“It’s really a special home because it has the kind of luxury finishes you’d expect, while also being a family home,” Mahlstedt said.

The residence also boasts a half-size basketball court, a resort-style pool area with outdoor loggia and entertainment pavilion featuring a wood-burning pizza oven, and a top-of-the-line gym with a Roma steam shower.

Additionally, the property has a 10-seat home theater, a raised wine grotto, and a hair salon with a hydraulic height-adjustable leather salon chair plus a shampoo bowl.

The home also comes equipped with a chef-caliber kitchen with Miele appliances as well as custom steel and glass windows and doors, according to Compass.

“A lot of the high-end homes in the area are custom built to very specific tastes,” Mahlstedt said. “The truly special thing about this home is that it’s built in a modern style that has a warmth you don’t find in many other properties,” Mahlstedt said.
