FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth police are warning drivers to seek alternate routes heading away from town after a reported fire has caused traffic issues along Interstate 30.

According to Fort Worth police, all westbound lanes of I-30 at Alta Mere, on the west side of the city, are closed until further notice.

Police said the lanes are blocked due to a fire from an overhead bridge that has caused debris from the bridge to fall onto the freeway.

Chopper video from over the scene appeared to show charring on the exterior side of the bridge, as road crews - including a skid steer loader - shoveling up the debris that had fallen into the roadway.

Cars also appeared to have been diverted off the interstate onto the roadway, causing some backups.

At this time, police have they indicated how long traffic might be impacted. WFAA is working to get more details.

Drivers can go to wfaa.com/traffic to find alternate routes.
