Five ways to get around new admission charges at Fort Worth Botanic Garden

Just because they’re about to start charging, doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have to pay.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Botanic Garden will start charging $12 for adults and $6 for kids starting July 19, but here are five ways around the admission charge.

  • Go to your nearest Fort Worth Public Library branch and get a Botanic Garden pass. These family passes are good for one week and can be checked out at the library for free. All you need is a Fort Worth Public Library card. But it must be a Fort Worth Public Library card. Other library cards are not accepted.
  • Family Community Pass – 4,500 passes were distributed to a number of Fort Worth non-profits. Ask your organization if they're participating.
  • Military – Active duty service members and their families get free admission through Labor Day.
  • Lone Star Card – families that receive SNAP or WIC benefits can get discounts through the Museum4All program. Adults get in for $1, kids under 15 are free.
  • Kids – all Fort Worth ISD students under 18 get in free from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. every school day.

The gardens will also offer free admission in the evenings once a quarter for cultural events, and entry will be free in the first hour and last hour for Fort Worth residents on the second and fourth Monday of the month, according to director Bob Byers.

“We do want to make sure that everybody that wants to visit is able to, regardless of financial circumstances,” Byers said.

Discounted options include half-price Saturday mornings on select days. You can also get a family membership for $80 and save money over several visits.

The new admission charges are meant to pay for maintenance and day-to-day operations, and are the only way to fund the garden, Byers said.
