Things to do in DFW this weekend: MLK Jr., Rodeo, country cornbread, Mardi Gras and more

There's a lot of celebrating going on, but make sure you stay safe and warm for the following week!

DALLAS — Whatever you decide to do this weekend, the goal should be to STAY WARM in some way, shape or form.

We've got two rounds of cold fronts to start and end the weekend, which will start off the next week with wintry weather.

So have your fun and celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr., but make sure you prep your homes and stay tuned with the WFAA weather team so you know what to expect.

With that in mind, here's a look at what's happening in North Texas:

Friday, Jan. 12

Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo opening weekend

Friday kicks off the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

From the "Best of the West" Ranch Rodeo to the Best of Mexico Celebracción and the Cowboys of Color, there are plenty of events to start us off on the right foot!

Carnival Midway Hours will be from 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday, so grab your tickets.

Keep in mind, there's a new route for Saturday's Stock Show Parade after the explosion at Sandman Signature Hotel downtown.

Elaina Kay's Cornbread & Country (Dallas)

Country music, BBQ, and benefits for first responders ... I feel like that's enough info to make you get a ticket.

Head to the Longhorn Ballroom at 6 p.m. for Elaina Kay's Cornbread & Country event.

In addition to a lineup of performers (including Elaina Kay herself), prepare yourself for catering by Smoke Showin' BBQ (owned by a Dallas fireman) and check out the western vendors.

A portion of all proceeds for the event will be donated to Dallas First Responders.

Has anyone else's social media feeds been flooded with Mardi Gras and New Orleans, and now you've got a massive craving for king cake and/or gumbo?

As Mardi Gras season kicks off, get a taste of NOLA with a Mardi Gras Brunch at Hilton Garden Inn. In addition to the food, expect tons of live entertainment and competitions where the winner leads a second line.

The brunch will benefit scholarship funds for the St. Augustine High School Alumni Association of Dallas and the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club, Inc. There will also be silent auction held during the brunch that'll benefit the Texas Restaurant Foundation.

Tickets start at $75.
