Two North Texas wrestling coaches relieved 'of all duties' after one allegedly involved in 'inappropriate comments and conduct,' officials say

Burleson administrators said they have opened an investigation, removed both the assistant and head coach, reported the matter to police and contacted parents.

BURLESON, Texas — Two North Texas coaches have been "relieved... of all duties" after one was reportedly involved in inappropriate behavior, according to the Burleson Independent School District.

On Oct. 23, campus administrators from Burleson Centennial High School reportedly learned about allegations against assistant wrestling coach Jacob Irwin "involving inappropriate comments and conduct," Burleson ISD officials said in a statement.

Officials did not provide any further details or specifics as to what or who this behavior involved.

Upon learning about the allegations, administrators said they immediately opened an investigation and "relieved both the assistant and Head Coach William Wilson of all duties."

The district statement said officials also reported the matter to law enforcement and contacted parents.

The district did not specify what Wilson's involvement was in the situation. Wilson's attorney, Tiger Hanner, said his client had been placed on paid administrative leave by Burleson ISD

The status of Irwin's employment is not known, however, Wilson told WFAA both coaches are on paid administrative leave.

Burleson ISD has not responded to requests for comment on the employment status of either coach.

"These allegations, if true, are outrageous — a breach of the bond between students and their teacher," Burleson ISD Superintendent Bret Jimerson said in a statement. "We will fully cooperate with the Burleson Police Department in this matter."

The Burleson Police Department confirmed to WFAA that it is engaged in an active investigation surrounding the allegations, but noted that no arrests have been made and no warrants have been issued.

WFAA reached out to Irwin for comment, but has not heard back.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this article said that both coaches were fired, rather than "relieved... of all duties" as the statement the district provided to WFAA said. The status of each coaches' employment with the district is not immediately clear, and WFAA has reached out to Burleson ISD for clarification on the matter. WFAA regrets the error.
