Wednesday's Child: 16-year-old Alex says he wants to gift his future family 'his heart"

All he wants is to be adopted by a mom and dad who will treasure the gift he wholeheartedly wants to give them.

DALLAS — Wednesday's Child 16-year-old Alex says he wants a shot at a loving home after spending seven years in foster care.

Alex is a huge Dallas Mavericks who couldn't believe his luck when they invited him for a behind-the-scenes tour of their practice facility in Dallas.

It was a dream come true.

"Luka is my favorite. He dunks and does layups and all kinds of stuff," he said excitingly about one of his favorite Mavs players.

Alex says he felt at home with the Mavs staff.  He also wants a two-parent home with siblings.

"I want a brother and sister and a family too. There's a brother in my heart. A big brother," he said.

When asked what he wants a big brother to teach him, his response was simple.

"To teach me how to play basketball."

Alex told WFAA he plays basketball better than he can read and that bothers him.

His advocates say Alex is on the spectrum and needs a family who will fight for his education.

"Teach me how to read. Teach me how to learn. Teach me how to do my ABCs and teach me how to do my chores right," he said about what he hopes a family will teach him.

Alex needs love, something he felt today from the mAVS staff and General Manager Nico Harrison who presented him with very generous gifts.

Alex was gifted an MVP Luka Doncic jersey, brand-new shoes, official Mavs gear, and tickets to an upcoming game.

His reaction was priceless and is also very grateful.

"Thank you," he said.

Alex shows his appreciation by being the best version of himself and making others proud.

During his tour of the Mavs facility, their in-house barber offered to give him a haircut, and even got a big compliment.

"Alex, you sit better than the players," the barber said.

Alex had a front-row seat at what it takes to be a Dallas Maverick. But all he truly wants is a front-row seat to parents who love and understand him.

"Mom's nice to me and Dad's nice to me," he said.

Alex has a special gift for the family who adopts him.

"My heart," he said.
