Fort Hood to hold news conference on Vanessa Guillen case

Officials confirmed Spc. Aaron Robinson was a suspect in the case who killed himself earlier this week.

FORT HOOD, Texas — Editor's Note: The video above is from a previous report about Vanessa Guillen's case and family members speaking in Washington D.C.

Fort Hood Senior Commander, Maj. Gen. Scott Efflandt, III Corps deputy commanding general, will hold a press conference today on the investigation into Vanessa Guillen's disappearance.

Maj. Gen. Efflandt will be joined by Fort Hood's Army Criminal Investigation Command and representatives from area law enforcement agencies who are helping with the investigation at the III Corps Headquarters.

The press conference comes after human remains were found in a search for Guillen near the Leon River earlier this week, which the Guillen family attorney Natalie Khawam later said she believed belonged to Vanessa.

The press conference will start at 2 p.m. CT and can be watched here.

Live updates from the press conference:

  • The remains have not been positively identified as Guillen.
  • The investigation into her disappearance is ongoing and there has not been a connection made between the sexual assault allegations and Guillen's disappearance according to Maj. Gen. Scott Efflandt.
  • Fort Hood said there are only two suspects in the case of missing Vanessa Guillen, despite other reports.
  • Officials confirm that Specialist Aaron Robinson was a suspect in the case who killed himself earlier this week. However, they also said there was no evidence Robinson sexually harassed Guillen.
  • There has been no information that Guillen was sexually assaulted or harassed, CID said.
  • There were no video cameras, and therefore no footage, at the location where the incident happened.
  • Investigators said they cannot release certain information as it would "jeopardize" the ongoing investigation.
  • Spc. Robinson and Vanessa Guillen were coworkers.
  • Officials said there is a person who may be prosecuted and cannot jeopardize the investigation, Special Agent CID Phelps said.
  • The scene near the Leon River is still an active scene and investigators are still searching the area.
