Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs being sued by former landlord for failure to pay rent

Diggs' landlord is seeking up to $250,000 in relief.

DENTON COUNTY, Texas — Trevon Diggs, a cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys and a two-time NFL Pro Bowl player, is being sued in Denton County by his former landlord for failure to pay rent.

The suit, filed at the end of 2022, states Diggs had entered into a one-year lease for a property in March 2022 in Frisco with a monthly rent of $5,500 due on the first of every month. But the landlord says the first month of the lease term was the only time he had made timely payment.

Diggs vacated the property at the end of July 22 in lieu of eviction, the suit detailed.

"There is currently due the sum of $33,500.00 in past due rent, plus accrued late payments as provided in the agreement," the suit states.

The landlord, identified by the lawsuit as Rose Marie Yadegar, states she has not been able to find a new tenant for the property, and that Diggs is responsible for the remaining two months of the lease as well, totaling $11,000.

Other expenses incurred include yard maintenance every two weeks for $45.45, repairs to the property totaling $3,400, the deep cleaning of carpets that were soiled at a cost of $531.15, and legal costs for the eviction process totaling $2,500.

In total, the landlord is asking for Diggs to pay up to $250,000 in relief.

The suit states Diggs also agreed to pay attorney's fees according to the terms of the lease.

Diggs' attorney filed a response to the complaint, generally denying each and every allegation in the suit and demanding the landlord prove them.

Scott Becker, the attorney for Diggs, said this suit came as "a bit of a surprise" to Diggs.

"This appears to stem from some misunderstanding or miscommunication going on with this rental property that ended sometime last year," Becker said.

Becker added that it looks to be a situation where some acquaintances of Diggs may have been taking advantage of him.

"He thought this matter was completely resolved," Becker said. "So, to have this situation arise out of the blue was a bit of a shock to him."

Becker said Diggs is working to work this out and solve the problem, and that he's not trying to be difficult.

"We certainly feel badly for her if that's the case that there's damage to the property," he said. "My client didn't cause that damage and we look forward to working it out with her... You become a target for things and that may be happening here."

Yadegar said she tried numerous times to work things out amicably, but that she was given the runaround by multiple people.

"It's been a very stressful situation and I don't understand," Yadegar said. "Why put a homeowner through this much hell when you know you have signed an agreement and you have to stay committed?"
