One man found dead after Wednesday night shooting, Dallas police say

The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived, they found two men shot in the parking lot, according to police.

DALLAS — A North Texas man is dead and another is in the hospital after a shooting Wednesday night, according to the Dallas Police Department.

On Thursday a little after 6 p.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting call in the 3000 block of S. Westmoreland Road. This is west of Kiest Park and south of Sierra Vista Plaza in the West Oak Cliff neighborhood.

The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived, they found two men shot in the parking lot, according to police. One man reportedly died at the scene, and the other man was taken to a local hospital where he was "listed in stable condition," police said. 

Further investigation determined the shooting happened in the 3000 block of Spruce Valley Lane, near where the men were found by officers. Police did not provide details as to how the shooting started or how many shots were involved.

The victim’s identity is unknown and will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Police say the investigation is ongoing and documented under case number 221260-2023.
