KAUFMAN, Texas — A 55-year-old man will spend eight years in federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing meth near Kaufman High School, officials announced.
Kenneth Russell Barr Jr. pleaded guilty in May 2023 to possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing detectable amount of methamphetamine, according to U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Leigha Simonton. The incident happened within 1,000 feet of Kaufman High School.
According to plea papers, law enforcement seized methamphetamine Barr delivered during the weeks of May 2 and May 16, 2022. Following the seizure, police officers executed a search warrant of his home. During that search, officers found about 353 grams of methamphetamine and multiple firearms, officials say.
As part of his guilty plea, Barr admitted he was a convicted felon and knew he wasn’t supposed to have firearms, officials say. He also admitted that he distributed methamphetamine near the high school.
Barr was sentenced to 97 months in federal prison on Dec. 4, 2023, by U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay.
Barr's case was investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety with the help of the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department and the Kaufman Police Department.
