'He moved here for a better life' | Family of Frisco shooting victim share heartbreak

Family told WFAA that Dung Doan and his wife left Vietnam one year ago. They wanted a better and safer life and worked to put their son through college.

FRISCO, Texas — Frisco police continue to investigate the puzzling shooting outside a Walmart near Preston Road and Hickory Street that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to another.

Police are searching for a suspect in the Wednesday night shooting that has been identified as random.

WFAA is learning more about the person killed in the shooting. Family members are mourning the death of Dung Doan, 62, of Frisco. Doan and his wife had immigrated from Vietnam to the U.S. one year ago. They lived near the Walmart, and Dung Doan would often takes walks to the Walmart for exercise and to be in better health.

"He did this regularly where he'd walk to Walmart to get something and walk back," said Dung Doan's niece Kaitlin Nguyen.

Nguyen describes a loving and hard-working man who arrived to the states for a better and safer life. The husband and wife did not know the language but found jobs to help pay bills and put their son through college.

"Why [the shooter] would take away a person's life? He has no right to do that. He is leaving behind his wife, his two kids, and a large extended family who cares about him," cried Nguyen.

Police have not made any arrests but is looking through surveillance video to aid them in finding the shooter.

"It makes me mad and scared. I'm scared because the murderer is still out there. I'm scared that he or she could strike again and it could be anybody," said Nguyen.
