1 killed, 3 injured in shooting involving child, Dallas police say

Two men and the 6-year-old child have been transported to local hospitals.

DALLAS — Dallas police say a man is dead and three others are in the hospital, including a 6-year-old child after a shooting Monday morning.

Just after 11:10 a.m., the Dallas Police Department says officers responded to the shooting call in the 5800 block of Bonnie View Road.

When officers arrived, four people were found shot. Police said one man, identified as 24-year-old Shermonda Lewis, died at the scene, and the 6-year-old and two other men were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions are unknown at this time, but police said the victims are stable.

Police sources told WFAA the 6-year-old was shot in the cheek, and that the suspect is one of the men who were shot.

The suspect, a source said, fired a pistol into an apartment, and then was fired back at. Police haven't released the suspect’s identity.

“It’s sad, just a sad case out here,” one neighbor told WFAA.

“It’s just sad because kids don’t have nothing to do with all the chaos and they pretty much just casualties out here,” another added.

Police have not revealed a relationship between the suspect and the victims or a motive.

The investigation is ongoing.
