Dallas man kills woman after she alleges his companion called her a racial slur

A man shot a woman dead Monday night in Dallas after she alleged his companion called her a racial slur.

DALLAS — A 55-year-old Dallas man shot and killed a woman after she alleged his companion called her the N-word Monday night, police say.

According to an arrest warrant, the incident began as Jimmie Tarrer and a woman, who police didn't identify, were on a plot of land they own just before 8 p.m. in the 3300 block of East Illinois Avenue.

As the pair talked, a woman walking by confronted the couple, claiming she heard Terrer's companion call her the N-word. The woman then approached the companion and spun her around, which is when Terrer intervened and fired a shot at the female.

Police said Terrer called 911 and gave the woman CPR until officers and paramedics arrived on the scene. The victim was transported to Baylor University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 8:33 p.m.

During the altercation, the companion sustained a cut to the eye, but police noted in a report it may have been caused by her sunglasses. And while Terrer told police the woman was armed with a knife, the companion said she never saw a weapon, according to the report.

Authorities said Terrer "invoked his right to remain silent" and was booked into jail on a murder charge.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police said the victim's identity was unknown.
