She went by the name Bianca Davenport Starr, and that's exactly what friends say she was a star.
"She was just a beacon of light and hope and love," says Starr's close friend, Lindsey.
For years, Starr had been a mainstay in Fort Worth's drag performing scene, putting on shows at the now-defunct Rainbow Lounge and more recently at Hooky Bar near West 7th Street, according to its Facebook page.
Her reach, friends say, was immeasurable. That's why news of her murder Friday has left people devastated.
"They've lost a real queen, a real leader, a mentor, a friend, a guiding light," Lindsey says.
Police say Starr, whose legal name was Jason Bradley, and a roommate, who friends say is also a drag performer, were both shot inside their TCU-area home on Rogers Avenue Friday morning. The roommate is still in the hospital at last report.
On Tuesday night, Fort Worth police arrested 26-year-old Fayaka Dunbar and charged him with capital murder in this case. It's still unclear why he was at their home. Police say there was no forced entry, but they would not say why Dunbar was at the Rogers Avenue home.
However, police told WFAA they believe the victims were shot as part of a robbery.
Dunbar is locked up at the Mansfield jail with a $100,000 bond. He agreed to do an interview with WFAA about that capital murder charge, but once the crew arrived, they were told he'd changed his mind.
Starr's friends are left with so many questions and an overwhelming feeling of loss.
"I just want people to know she was a really good person who was there for anyone who needed her to be," Lindsey says. "And that's why so many people loved and appreciated her."
According to friends and Facebook posts, there's an event being held Sunday at Hooky Bar in Starr's honor.
