Cole Sullivan

I’m excited to meet folks across North Texas. I’m particularly interested in hard news stories and investigative reporting.

Cole Sullivan is a General Assignment Reporter at WFAA in Dallas, Texas covering all of North Texas.

1) Who are you?  I’ve wanted to be a reporter for as long as I can remember. For me, there’s no better feeling than breaking a news story – especially one that impacts the community -- and I’m excited for the privilege to tell stories here in North Texas.

Moving to the metroplex means I’ve officially lived in all four U.S. time zones. I was born and raised in Atlanta, then went to the sunny beaches of Los Angeles for college at USC (Go Trojans!).

My first job was at WBIR in Knoxville, Tenn. where I reported on misconduct within the police department and abusive behavior at a youth prison – reports that led to internal investigations and change within the prison system. After four years on Rocky Top, I still consider myself an “Honorary Vol for Life,” despite the eye rolls from both my friends and die-hard Tennessee fans alike.

At KUSA in Denver, I broke the story of the state’s largest casino heist ($500k…the money was never found). I covered institutional failures at the nation’s third busiest airport and months-long delays with state unemployment benefits. I successfully hiked to 14,000 feet, attempted to learn to love camping and discovered I’m a mediocre skier at best.

I’m excited to meet folks across North Texas. I’m particularly interested in hard news stories and investigative reporting. I’m always on the hunt for the best stories out there, so please feel free to reach out with any tips.

2) What are your interests? When I’m not paying attention to the news (which is too much of the time, if I’m being honest), I’m probably zoning out on a run while listening to trashy pop music. I love to travel – Patagonia is next on my bucket list. I keep a list of the favorite local spots I find while on the road and like passing those recommendations on to my friends.

I love to read all kinds of books and usually have a long list on hold at the public library. I like to cook, but am not very good at it. I’ve described myself as an “aspiring chef” enough that some friends finally just bought me a cookbook that I look forward to delving into.

3) What do you like about working at WFAA? The phrase that kept coming up as I learned about WFAA was “excellence.” Everyone here wants to do the best possible job for our community and I’m excited to be a part of that.

For me that means having the chance to work with the talented photojournalists who help make a story sing, a great behind-the-scenes team that helps get it to air and managers who make sure we’re doing right by our community.

4) What's one thing people would be surprised to learn about you? I do have some kitchen skills...I make a mean banana bread, blueberry pie and pumpkin roll.
