Collin County is not just a leader for population growth in North Texas — it's also one of the hottest spots in the entire nation.

More evidence of that arrived May 16, when the U.S. Census Bureau released its latest city-by-city population estimates. Four Collin County cities ranked among the 10 fastest-growing in the country among places with a population of at least 20,000.

Celina, which is about 40 miles north of downtown Dallas, topped the list with a nearly 27% increase from mid-2022 to mid-2023, bringing its estimated population to 43,717.

The city, which lies in both Collin and Denton counties, is a magnet for residential and commercial development, as well as new infrastructure investments. Single-family home construction permits rose by more than 52% in Celina in 2023, according to data from Tomlin Investments Ltd.

Princeton grew an estimated 22% to rank No. 3 nationwide and Anna shot up an estimated 17% to rank No. 4. All of these Collin County suburbs have benefitted similarly from relatively affordable single-family homes and apartments paired with high-quality public schools.

Moreover, new semiconductor facilities rising in Sherman, about 20 miles north of Anna, are also driving housing demand in the area.

Prosper, which is also in both Collin and Denton counties, ranked No. 9 with nearly 11% growth and Forney, in Kaufman County east of Dallas, was No. 10 with 10% growth.

Overall, eight Texas cities ranked among the 15 fastest-growing in the country. Fulshear, on the western outskirts of Houston, was No. 2 with nearly 26% estimated growth. Also on the list were Georgetown and Kyle.

The Census projections carry a lot of weight with business and government leaders. They show where new residents and customers are landing and are also used frequently by site selectors, real estate brokers and many others.
