South Oak Cliff's historic season continues with win over Lovejoy to advance to state semifinals

The Golden Bears will play Lubbock Cooper in the semifinal round.

FRISCO, Texas — Saturday was a historic day for the South Oak Cliff Golden Bears, who beat the Lovejoy Leopards to advance to the state semifinals.

South Oak Cliff (13-1) jumped out to an early lead at the Ford Center in Frisco and never looked back. They led 28-0 at halftime and won by a final score of 42-21.

The Golden Bears were paced by quarterback Kevin Henry-Jennings, who ran for two touchdowns and passed for one. Running back Ke’Undrae Hollywood had two scores on the ground as well.

Quarterback Alexander Franklin had two scores for Lovejoy, one passing and one rushing, in the loss. The Leopards finish 12-2 on the season.

South Oak Cliff will play Lubbock Cooper in the semifinal round.

South Oak Cliff is the first Dallas ISD team to make it to the semifinal round since Skyline did it in 2014. Should they advance to the finals, they would be the first DISD team to make it that far since Lincoln since 2004.

DISD has not won a UIL State Football Championship since Sunset won the district’s first and only one in 1950 in the now-defunct “City” Classification. Carter won in 1988, but eventually had the title stripped.
