Quick Notes:

  • Severe Thunderstorm Watch for most of North Texas on Memorial Day
  • More storms and rain this week
  • Flooding threat increases

Monday night

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch that was in effect for North Texas Monday afternoon and evening ended at 10 p.m.

Any lingering storms will generally weaken and end by midnight. Before storms completely end, a little hail may be possible with ones that remain the strongest. Most areas will be dry and storm-free during the late night hours.

Tuesday storm chances

A couple of rounds of storms will be possible Tuesday. There is a chance for some storms to produce quarter size hail or larger and 60 mph wind gusts. A Slight (level 2 of 5) risk for severe weather is in place for DFW with an Enhanced (level 3 of 5) for areas west and southwest of DFW. Heavy rain could cause flooding in some areas as well.

2 rounds of storms are possible

  1. During the morning to midday hours mainly from DFW to the northeast. A round may spread into North Texas during this time with a low severe risk. Can't rule out some hail and wind. Pockets of heavy rain will be possible as well.
  2. During the evening into late night hours. A round will move into North Texas from the west and spread across North Texas during the night. This round is why the Enhanced (level 3 of 5) exists for areas west/southwest of DFW. Main concerns will be strong wind gusts and up to quarter size hail. This round also will be more be widespread in terms of rainfall, and any heavy rain could cause a flooding concern.

Rest of this week

More rain.

The rest of the week looks rainy and stormy. While the severe threat does appear low during the second part of the week, rounds of rain could lead to flooding issues in parts of North Texas.

Each day will feature the chance for showers and storms in the area, and by the end of next weekend North Texas could see around 2in to 5in or more of rainfall.

We'll take each day at a time as some days will feature higher coverages than others and the exact timing will be worked out day by day as well.
