DFW weather: Cold Christmas in store

The coldest weather of the year stays through the holiday weekend.

DALLAS — Bundle up, DFW! This week's arctic blast brought the coldest weather since February 2021. 

DFW Airport reported an 11° low temperature on Friday morning. This makes it the coldest December temperature recorded since Dec. 23, 1990. 

The cold air stays through Christmas

THIS IS A GOOD TIME TO REMIND YOU THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW WHERE YOUR WATER SHUT-OFF VALVE IS AND HOW TO TURN YOUR WATER OFF IN CASE YOU HAVE BROKEN PIPES.

Christmas 2022 will be a cold one! The morning low at DFW Airport dropped to 23° which was the coldest Christmas morning since 2004 when the low was 19°.

Sunshine and light southerly winds warm temperatures to the upper 30s or around 40° around midday and into the mid 40s for the afternoon. Christmas evening will be chilly with temperatures dipping back to the 30s.

At DFW, it has snowed 4 times on Christmas Eve - 2009, 2002, 1975, and 1943. 

The coldest Christmas Eve was in 1983 with a low of 7 and a high of 13. It has snowed 3 times on Christmas Day - 2012, 1975, and 1974. The coldest Christmas was in 1983 with a low of 6 and a high of 18. 

The warmest Christmas on record was just last year with a high of 82!

Santa brings warmer weather 

After Christmas, the warmer weather returns! The last week of 2022 brings highs in the 50s, 60s, and maybe even 70s! Rain chances return Thursday through Saturday. As of now, it does not look like it is enough to cancel plans.
