FORT WORTH, Texas — Nightly highway closures are scheduled to begin this week near the North East Mall as construction gets underway for the North Tarrant Express Capacity Improvement Project.

The project will add a free general-purpose lane in each direction along the north loop of Interstate 820 and a tolled lane in each direction along Airport Freeway, according to the TEXpress lanes.

Covering a 10-mile section of I-820, State Highway 121 and State Highway 183, the project spans six cities in the DFW metroplex.

TEXpress announced the following closures will be in effect from April 30 through May 3 from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.:

  • Reduced to one lane: I-820, SH 121 and SH 183 eastbound lanes from Davis Boulevard to Precinct Line Road.
  • Lanes closed: SH 121 and SH 183 TEXpress eastbound lanes from Texas Boulevard 26 to Bedford Euless Road.
  • Lanes closed: Direct connector from northbound I-820 to SH 121 and SH 183 TEXpress lanes.
  • Lane closed: Left lane of direct connector from northbound I-820 to SH 121 and SH 183 eastbound lanes. One lane of direct connector will remain open.

The entire project is estimated to take three-and-a-half years, completing sometime in 2027.

Drivers are urged to start planning alternate routes and extra travel time in this corridor.
