Triple Crown winner Justify's owner is a Dallas resident

It's been a tough year to be a DFW sports fan. The Cowboys, Stars, and Mavericks missed the playoffs, and Rangers are at the beginning of a long summer.

So maybe we can claim the Triple Crown?

Justify – who won the Belmont Stakes on Saturday – is from the WinStar Farm in Kentucky, but his owner, Kenny Troutt, lives in Dallas.

Troutt – whose net worth is $1.41 billion, according to Forbes – bought the Versailles, Ky., farm in 2000, according to the WinStar website. Troutt founded Excel Communications, a long-distance phone company, in the 1980s. The North Texas-based company went public in 1996.

This year wasn't Troutt's first taste of horseracing success. WinStar's Super Saver won the Kentucky Derby in 2010 and Creator won the Belmont Stakes last year.

Gov. Greg Abbott made sure to give a shoutout to Justify's Texas ties on Sunday morning.
