Goodbye AAC? Mark Cuban says Mavs owners won't move team but will build new arena

Cuban spoke about the future of the team, it's media rights and more on The Ben and Skin Show.

DALLAS — Former Dallas Mavericks governor Mark Cuban said the team's new owners "will definitely build a new arena for the team."

Cuban sold a majority stake of the Mavs to the Las Vegas-based casino magnate Miriam Adelson and her family in December 2023, while Cuban retained a 27% stake in the team, according to NBA reporter Marc Stein.

In an appearance Tuesday on The Ben and Skin Show on 97.1 The Freak, Cuban spoke about the team's sale, his future on Shark Tank, his recent social media beef with Elon Musk and more.

According to Cuban, the Mavs' new owners plan to build a new arena for the Mavs to play in, but he shut down the idea of the Adelsons moving the Mavericks outside of Texas.

"The NBA won't let them anyway, and they have made it clear they want it to be in Texas, in Dallas," Cuban said. "Remember, Dallas has become the fifth-largest market in the country and is only continuing to grow. That was an important part of our conversation. There's no chance that they're moving. On top of that, even if we don't get gambling approved, [the Adelsons] are still going to build a new arena."

The Dallas Business Journal reported in December 2023 that the casino tycoons bought land that previously served as the site of Dallas Cowboys' Texas Stadium in Irving. Cuban has previously said his sale of a majority of the Dallas Mavericks to the Adelson family is part of a bigger vision for building a new arena and casino resort. He dreams of Dallas becoming a "top-five travel destination" in the United States.

After being asked if the Irving site was where the new arena would be, Cuban said he did not know exact location, but he did know it'll be in Dallas proper.

Casino gambling remains illegal in Texas despite efforts in recent years by Sands and other supporters to get legislation passed. Experts see Cuban's sale as part of a renewed push.

Cuban also let Skin, who does sideline reporting for Mavericks broadcasts, know his bonus was $75,000. Needless to say, the news left him speechless. Check out the moment here:
