'LUKA WENT INTO GOD MODE!' | Athletes, celebrities, social media react to Luka Doncic's 73-point historic game

Doncic's 73 points was tied for the fourth-highest in NBA history and a new record for the Mavericks, breaking his previous record of 60.

DALLAS — What. A. Performance.

Dallas Mavericks fans are no stranger to "Luka Magic," but Friday night's 73-point night from Luka Doncic was another level of special. Doncic's 73 points was tied for the fourth-most ever scored in an NBA game, surpassed by only Wilt Chamberlain's 100 and 78 and Kobe Bryant's 81.

Speaking of Bryant, the performance came four years to the day Bryant tragically died in a helicopter crash.

Doncic said it was very special to have a night like he had in light of the anniversary of Bryant's passing.

"We all love Kobe, man," Doncic said. "It was a big tragedy. I can't believe it's been four years already. It's special, you know, to feel on the same day, but obviously I wish he was here."

As the 73-point game unfolded, Doncic was trending on X, formerly known as Twitter. Athletes, celebrities and everyone couldn't hold in their amazement of the Luka magic. Here is a look at some of the responses:

The Mavericks rode Doncic's big game to end their three-game losing streak while handing the Hawks their fourth straight loss. Doncic made 25 of 33 shots from the field, 8 of 13 3-pointers and 15 of 16 free throws. The field goals made set another personal record.

The win improved the Mavericks to 25-20 on the season. Dallas take on the Sacramento Kings (25-18) Saturday night at home in the second half of a back-to-back.
