'Dallas to Cancun' | Ad outside Clippers' Crypto.com Arena trolls Mavs ahead of Game 5

The Dallas Mavericks take on the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night with the series tied at 2-2.

LOS ANGELES — Mavs fans, take note. You're officially being trolled.

Ahead of Game 5 in the Dallas Mavericks-Los Angeles Clippers series, which is tied 2-2, a Miami-based global travel comparison app, Skyscanner, took the opportunity to trash talk the Mavericks and its fanbase by purchasing billboard space outside of Crypto.com Arena advertising flights from Dallas to Cancun.

It references the decades-old joke about professional athletes booking their vacations after being eliminated from the playoffs.

"Dallas to Cancun ... For great flights to Cancun, visit Skyscanner," the billboard reads.

“We’ve always thought the Cancun meme was super fun. So what better way to bring some attention to Skyscanner than to have some fun with a giant billboard outside one of the NBA’s most famous arenas celebrating travel and cheap flights to Cancun. Win or lose, Mexico’s always a great spot to recharge the batteries,” said Andre Le Masurier, Global Head of Brand at Skyscanner.

Now, the Mavericks have an opportunity to make a mockery of the joke. While the Mavs-Clippers has been a tightly-contested series, Dallas has already won in Los Angeles once (Game 2) and could win a pivotal Game 5 and close out in Game 6. Or even if they do lose Game 5, Dallas can still win Game 6 and force the do-or-die Game 7.

But would the ad still be up in that scenario? Who knows? Hopefully there's no need to find out and Dallas closes it out in six games.
