Wyatt Langford will officially be on Texas Rangers' Opening Day roster

The Texas Rangers selected Langford with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft.

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Get ready, Rangers fans.

Your defending World Series champions is adding yet another red hot bat to its Opening Day line-up. Texas Rangers Manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that rookie sensation Wyatt Langford would be on the team's Opening Day roster.

Langford, 22, entered Friday with a .388 average, 446 on-base percentage, six homers and 19 RBIs in 49 Cactus League at-bats. The Rangers selected the outfielder out of the University of Florida with the fourth overall pick in last year’s amateur draft.

Langford told reporters in at spring training on Friday that he was "excited" to hear the news, but he was expecting it and a weight was taken off his shoulders once he heard the news. Langford said he first called his wife and parents to share he'd made the big leagues.

Bochy told the media on Friday moments like that are what make being a manager special. You can learn more about the Rangers' most-hyped rookie here.

The Rangers open their season with a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs, starting on Thursday, March 28.
