Just a few months after relocating its corporate office to Dallas, home improvement concept TreeHouse is going out of business.

Gary Kusin, the eco-friendly retailer’s CEO, confirmed with the Dallas Morning News that TreeHouse’s stores are closing in what he called “a very difficult decision” spurred by investors taking “a hard look” at the business after its move to Dallas.

"After careful consideration, we decided to wind down operations," Kusin told the Morning News. "We have made great strides towards our goals but fell short of those needed to secure future growth."

TreeHouse was founded in Austin in 2011 by Jason Ballard. According to his LinkedIn page, Ballard stepped down as CEO of the company in October 2017 and now works as CEO and co-founder of ICON3D, an Austin-based construction technology company.

Kusin took TreeHouse’s top role in December 2017.

The company announced in May plans to shutter its original store on South Lamar Boulevard in Austin, which has been in operation for seven and a half years.

“The Austin store has been invaluable for operational learnings but is not in an ideal location for long-term success,” the company posted on its website at the time. “However, we love Austin, and will be exploring other Austin locations that fit our growth strategy. Our Austin team will complete all active installation projects and continue retail sales for the next 90 days.”

In conjunction with the closing, TreeHouse announced plans to move its home office to North Texas, where it has two more retail locations. One store, at the northeast corner of Interstate 75 and Walnut Hill Lane in North Dallas, opened in June 2017. Another, at 2201 Preston Road, Ste. A in Plano, opened earlier this year.

TreeHouse has not said when its local stores will close.
