Social media helps catch suspected car thief in McKinney

It is ultimately connection on social media that led to Kristian getting her car back and police arresting Xavien Sneed, a 17-year-old.

MCKINNEY, Texas — Kristian Parsons moved to McKinney more than one year ago because she heard good things about the city, which is why she was surprised when her car was stolen one Sunday morning.

"I've had a lot happen to me, not anything like that," Parsons said of the theft of her new Dodge Challenger.

A McKinney officer took a report on the theft and Parsons decided to post on Facebook and share a photo of the stolen muscle car.

"[I'm] thinking if somebody sees it, I have done my part," she said of the post, which caught the eye of Jeni Boler as she killed time on the McKinney Cares Facebook page.

After the post caught Boler's eye, so did a car matching the description of Parsons' Challenger at a Wendy's fast food restaurant in Allen.

"I was doing almost like a double-take -- 'Wait a second, I just saw that car,'" Boler said.

Boler alerted Parsons, who immediately hopped in a car and headed toward the Wendy's. She was able to access surveillance footage and saw her Dodge Challenger in the drive-thru lane. Both women alerted McKinney police.

"I was in tears because not everybody gets this kind of lead," Parsons said.

The tip led police to Parsons' car and 17-year-old Xavien Sneed, who was arrested. Police say Sneed faces two charges of auto theft and has five others pending.

"It makes my heart sad to know they've fallen by the wayside and doing this kind of crap is how they get attention," Parsons said.

Parsons said the interior of her car was "trashed" with cigar wrappers, tobacco and weed. She also said there were burn marks in the car.

But it was Boler's action that left Parsons hopeful.

"Good-hearted people like that are still in the world," she said.
