Voice actor Mark Dodson, known for roles in 'Gremlins' and 'Star Wars', has died

Dodson was slated to make an appearance at Horror Con in Evansville, Indiana, this weekend.

WASHINGTON — Voice actor Mark Dodson, known for his roles in "Gremlins" and "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi," has died. He was 64. 

Organizers for Horror Con, a convention in Evansville, Indiana, where Dodson was slated to make an appearance over the weekend, confirmed the voice actor's death late Saturday in a Facebook post.

Dodson's daughter Ciara told TMZ that the voice actor died in his sleep after suffering a heart attack at an Evansville hotel. His agency, Stellar Appearances, also confirmed his death on Sunday. 

"We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Mark Dodson last night. Mark was not only a talented voice actor but also a cherished member of the horror community," convention runners shared on Facebook. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fans during this incredibly difficult time."

"We hope that you can take a moment out of your day to reflect on the joy and laughter that Mark brought into the world. His legacy will live on through his work," the post continued. "Rest in peace, Mark. You will be remembered and missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you and experiencing your talent."

The 64-year-old actor is most known for his role as Salacious Crumb, a creature with a cynical high-pitched cackle, in "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi."

After his breakout role in the 1983 "Star Wars" movie, Dodson went on to voice many Gremlins in the 1984 film "Gremlins."

The voice actor also lent his talents to dozens of movies, video games and commercials.
