BEDFORD, Texas — Bedford police say a woman who was in a vehicle that’d been reported stolen is in custody Saturday after she led police on a brief chase and rammed into police cruisers.
The department said they tried to contact the driver shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Harwood Road while investigating a report of a stolen vehicle. Instead, officers said she drove off and hit a police car.
The driver drove into a parking lot, where police say they tried to box the vehicle in. However, the driver rammed into police cars until the vehicle was freed, according to police.
Police say the driver then sped up toward an officer who fired three shots that hit the vehicle, and police continued to chase her for a short distance until the car became disabled.
The department noted the driver then tried to run away, but was taken into custody by officers. Neither she nor police sustained serious injuries.
Police haven’t identified the driver and say the incident is still under investigation. The Bedford Center YMCA was also placed on a brief lockdown.
