DALLAS — A 66-year-old woman sleeping in her car was shot and killed early Thursday in east Oak Cliff.

Officers responded to a call around 12:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of Grinnell Street. Carolyn J. Parrish was found dead in her car.

Parrish and several dogs had been sleeping in the car parked on the front lawn of her family's home, police said.

The family heard a loud noise and went outside to check on Parrish. She was slumped over the steering wheel.

Police say she was shot in the chest.

Investigators are working to determine whether the shooting was intentional or if Parrish was hit by random gunfire. There was random gunfire reported in the area before Parrish was found dead, police said.
