Following ransomware attack, Tarrant Appraisal District extends filing deadlines

Homeowners will have until May 24 to protest their appraisals. TAD is warning users there could be more issues with the website.

TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — Tarrant County home and business owners will have more time to protest their appraisals and file renditions, the Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD) announced.

Homeowners now have until May 24 to submit their appraisal protests and businesses have until May 15 to submit Business Personal Property Renditions without penalty.

TAD said online services had been restored after a March ransomware attack compromised the personal information of about 300 Tarrant County residents. After the attack, the appraisal district’s website continued to have issues.

Now, property owners can go on the TAD website to access their dashboard, submit protests, apply for homestead exemptions and engage in value negotiation.

“In light of the delay in the availability of our dashboard, we have made the decision to extend the protest deadline until May 24,” the Tarrant Appraisal District said in a statement. “We understand the importance of providing time for property owners to review their assessments and file protests accordingly.”

The website may continue to have intermittent issues, TAD acknowledged in a statement. The organization recommends using the website outside of peak hours, before 10 a.m., after 6 p.m. and between 1 – 3 p.m. For persistent issues, users should email webmaster@tad.org.

“Our team is actively monitoring and optimizing site performance to ensure smooth operation,” TAD said in a statement.

Commercial property appraisal notices are expected to be mailed around May 1. The deadline to protest those appraisals is May 31 or 30 days after to notices are mailed, whichever is later.
