What's Wednesday’s Child 10-year-old Jaylin's Christmas wish? To be adopted by a loving mom and dad

"He needs a very heartwarming home. A secure home. Safe home. And someone that's not gonna [sic] give up on him," Jaylin's caseworker, Qumesha Lathers said.

ARLINGTON, Texas — With just days until Christmas 2023, Wednesday’s Child Jaylin wants nothing more than a loving home.

Jaylin is only 10 years old, but he has the ability to focus better than anyone around him. He was especially laser focused on building LEGO toys at Bricks & Minifigs in Arlington

"I'm building a truck," he told WFAA during a marathon session of LEGO building.

"He's very advanced for his age," said Bradley, one of the workers at the store.

When he's playing with LEGO bricks, Jaylin is in a world where everything clicks. That's something he needs right now from a forever family – a family he clicks with.

"A mom and a dog and a sister," he told WFAA about the kind of family he wants.

Jaylin is very smart and soft spoken. He doesn't talk a whole lot but when he does, he is very articulate and well spoken. Some things, however, don't need to be spoken, they are simply felt. Jaylin craves the love of a mother.

"I love you," he said when he was asked about what he wants to hear from a mother.

Those are the words Jaylin wants to hear over and over again from a family as he dreams about getting adopted for Christmas.

"I'm working hard to find his forever home," said Qumesha Lathers.

Lathers is Jaylin's caseworker and knows better than anyone how much Jaylin wants to be a part of a family.

"Jaylin is very articulate. He is a very smart young boy," she said.

Lathers is doing her best to help Jaylin to build a strong family.

"He needs a very heartwarming home. A secure home. Safe home. And someone that's not gonna [sic] give up on him," she said.

But before all that, she actually needs to help find Jaylin a home and hopes this Wednesday's Child segment will help.

"The family that is best for him is a loving family. A caring family. A family that is going to protect him. A family that's going to guide him and lead him. A family that is going to provide," she said.

Jaylin would thrive in a two-parent household where there are lots of hugs, I love you’s and preferably where he becomes a mama's boy.

WFAA asked Jaylin what comes to mind when he thinks about how a loving mother should treat him. He simply answered that she’d be nice, help him with everything and cook for him.

As time wrapped at Bricks & Minifigs, it was easy to see that Jaylin's true focus in life is simply to find a family he loves.
