Mesquite police car crashes with vehicle while chasing another, department confirms

The squad car was pursuing a fleeing vehicle when it crashed into another in an intersection in Dallas, police said.

DALLAS — A Mesquite police car was involved in a crash while chasing a vehicle that fled an attempted traffic stop, the department confirmed to WFAA on Saturday. 

The Mesquite Police Department said a two-man patrol unit attempted to make a traffic stop at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Samuell Boulevard and Big Town Boulevard. The vehcile fled the scene and a pursuit was initiated, Mesquite police said. 

The pursuit continued south on Jim Miller Boulevard, and while the squad car was traveling through the intersection of Jim Miller Boulevard and Red Bud Drive, it crashed with another vehicle, police said. Both officers and the other vehicle occupant were transported to a local area hospital for examination. 

Mesquite police later found the suspect vehicle abandoned. 

There were no further details immediately available.
