Local business owner near Loop 12 overpass wants more safety measures after second fatal crash in nearly two months

Police say 45-year-old Moises Sanchez died after his car fell off the Loop 12 overpass onto Singleton Boulevard.

DALLAS — Just off Singleton Boulevard, near Loop 12, sits Yazmin Auto Glass shop. Vanjely Rodriguez, the owner of the store, says he's witnessed crashes happen time and time again.

The latest crash was one of the worst he's ever seen. On Monday afternoon, Dallas police say 45-year-old Moises Sanchez died after he lost control of his vehicle on Loop 12, and fell off the bridge 17 feet to the road below. The crash happened along North Walton Walker Boulevard and Singleton Boulevard.

Police said it was a multi-vehicle accident and that the driver of one of the vehicles involved died from their injuries.

This is the second crash were a vehicle has fallen off the overpass in nearly two months at this intersection.

"I'm kind of scared," said Rodriguez. "Because there was a big accident right over here."

Rodriguez and Ricardo Gonzalez, a manager at the auto glass shop, say this stretch of road is a problem for crashes. Police responded to the same intersection at 3 a.m. Dec. 8, 2023, after a car was reportedly driven off the same Loop 12 overpass. In that incident, responding officials transported the driver to a local hospital in critical condition for treatment of their injuries. They driver in this crash also died.

On Tuesday, WFAA reached out to Sanchez's family. They said over the phone it was a "freak accident" and he was headed home from work at the time of the crash. He was only five minutes away.

"I'm just imagining you know, if it was one of your family members how would you feel right now...yeah...it's sad," said Rodriguez.

"It's just crazy to see," Gonzalez added.

Rodriguez said he's wanting more safety measures added to prevent these horrific situations from happening.

"I think they need to build a fence, at least 3 feet something like that. It's going to help," he said.

WFAA reached out to the Texas Department of Transportation to see if they have any plans in the works to make that area safer and they say they will look into it once an investigation is complete.
