La Casita opening in Dallas' flagship Half Price Books

It will be La Casita Bakeshop's first Dallas location.

DALLAS — La Casita Bakeshop, the coffee shop by James Beard-nominated pastry chef Maricsa Trejo, will soon serve coffee and pastries at Half Price Books’ flagship location on Northwest Highway in Dallas.

La Casita Bakeshop will replace Black Forest Coffee, which moved out of Half Price Books after more than 20 years.

La Casita has locations in Richardson and Rowlett and a garden in Frisco, according to their website.

Trejo and her husband Alex Henderson opened their first La Casita storefront in Richardson in 2019.

The new location at the Half Price Books at 5803 E. Northwest Highway will serve only coffee and pastries when they first open, but Henderson says they will add brunch.

"We are about 2-3 months out and visitors can expect our same coffee and pastries when we open!" Henderson says.

Once permitting allows, Henderson says they will also add a tiki bar – a first for La Casita concepts.

“This will be a coffee shop in the day and down the road we will be a Mexican Tiki bar at night!” Henderson says.
