Man shot, killed by Grand Prairie officers after reported conflict between neighbors, police say

Officials said police shot at an armed suspect who pointed a gun at them.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A man has died after he was shot during a confrontation with Grand Prairie police officers Monday night, according to the police department.

Police said officers were called around 11:30 p.m. to the 800 block of Cambridge Place. They said a man who was possibly intoxicated was confronting a neighbor "in a threatening manner."

Officers at the scene tried to reach the man at a home near the scene. They had knocked on the door and announced their presence when they allegedly heard a gunshot from inside the home.

Police said officers retreated from the entryway as the man exited the home with a gun and pointed it at officers.

"Fearing for their lives, both Grand Prairie police officers discharged their weapons striking the subject who was pronounced deceased at the scene by Grand Prairie Fire Department personnel," police officials said in a news release.

Records from the Dallas County Medical Examiner's office identified the man as 43-year-old Ryan Sean Oxley.

Investigators found a loaded pistol near Oxley after he was shot, police said.

Grand Prairie police said both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. The department's Office of Professional Standards will open an administrative investigation, and the Dallas County District Attorney's Officer-Involved Shooting is working a separate investigation.

No other information was immediately available.
