'I actually survived:' Beloved Frisco climbing coach struck by intoxicated driver, then hit by a second car

"I don't remember ever… even realizing what happened," Kim Puccio told WFAA. "I saw two headlights coming toward me, and that's it."

FRISCO, Texas — If you didn’t know any better, you wouldn’t be impressed to see climbing coach Kim Pucci at practice with her kids.

But it is remarkable that she's alive at all.

"I don't remember ever… even realizing what happened," Pucci told WFAA. "I saw two headlights coming toward me, and that's it."

Puccio, according to the Department of Public Safety, was hit head on by an impaired driver. Moments later, she was hit head on by a second car.

"I’m just trying to picture myself in the car and how I actually survived that," she said.

According to court documents, the woman accused of crashing into Puccio had three prior DWIs.

"It could've been anybody," Puccio told WFAA. "It could've been one of the kids that I coach, could've been one of their families."

Puccio was diagnosed with a collapsed lung, internal bleeding, colon displacement, a large hernia, traumatic head laceration and 10 fractured bones.

Puccio's daughters, Casey and Alex, said their mom has no insurance.

"If she had the money to afford health insurance, she would have it," Casey said.

Coaching young climbers is her life’s passion, they said, but it doesn’t pay.

"The first bill for the hospital was already over $300,000," Alex added.

And Puccio needs more surgeries. Her girls started fundraising, and so far, have collected $90,000.

"We are incredibly grateful for every donation we’ve gotten," Casey said.

"I know that it’s gonna take a very long time to pay this off," Puccio added. "It’s something that’s going to be in the back of my mind for a really long time."

Anyone interested in donating to Puccio's GoFundMe can do so here.
