1 killed in Fort Worth wrong-way crash, police say

One of the vehicles was going in the wrong direction on 114 and crashed head-on into the other vehicle, police said.

FORT WORTH, Texas — One person was killed in a wrong-way crash in far north Fort Worth early Thursday morning, police said.

The crash happened at about 12:40 a.m. along Texas 114 near Farm Road 156 in the area near Northwest High School, according to a news release from Fort Worth police.

Officers responded and found two vehicles involved in the crash. One of the vehicles was going in the wrong direction on 114 and crashed head-on into a semi-truck, police said. The person who was driving the wrong-way car died at the scene, according to the release. A passenger in the car was hurt, police said.

"They tried to Careflight the passenger, but they were unable to do it due to weather," Fort Worth Police Officer Tracy Carter said. "An ambulance was able to take the passenger to the hospital."

The other driver was evaluated at the scene and released. More information about how the crash happened was not yet available Thursday morning. Traffic detectives were still investigating the crash.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the driver as 25-year-old William Fader. Records show the wreck happened about a mile from his home.

Fort Worth police were also working a deadly wrong-way crash in west Fort Worth on Interstate 30 on Thursday morning. MedStar confirmed one person died and three others were injured. The crash was at I-30 and Lockheed Boulevard and also involved a semi-truck.

"Seeing two traffic accidents, two fatality wrong-way drivers the same day was something that I haven’t seen in my career," Carter said. "This is something that shouldn't have happened."
