18 employees treated after carbon monoxide report at Fort Worth bakery, officials say

Firefighters had responded to a report of a carbon monoxide exposure, according to fire department spokesman Craig Trojacek.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Eighteen employees at a Fort Worth bakery were taken to a hospital out of precaution after a report of carbon monoxide exposure Thursday morning, officials said.

The incident happened at the Guanajuato Bakery in the 3300 block of East Belknap, northeast of downtown, around 10:30 a.m. Firefighters had responded to a report of people having carbon monoxide exposure symptoms, according to Fort Worth Fire Department Spokesman Craig Trojacek.

Everyone was deemed to be in level "green" condition, which means they are expected to be OK, but they were taken to a hospital out of precaution, Trojacek said.

No customers were at the business when the incident happened.

Most of the employees, 18, were taken to a hospital in a MedStar "AMBUS," which is a large bus-like ambulance. Trojacek said crews were still investigating how the carbon monoxide exposure happened and how much employees were exposed.

Trojacek said there was construction work done on an oven at the bakery on Wednesday, but investigators weren't sure if that was tied to a possible leak or not. Crews were also conducting periodic air-quality checks to monitor carbon monoxide levels in the building, Trojacek said.

The health department is on scene and the cause is under investigation, officials said.
