Fort Worth chef Grady Spears arrested on assault charge

Spears, 49, was being held at the Tarrant County jail on Tuesday. His bail had not yet been set.

A well known Fort Worth chef was arrested early Tuesday in a domestic violence incident, according to a police report.

Grady Spears, 49, was being held at the Tarrant County jail on Tuesday. His bail had not yet been set.

Officers were called about 11:45 p.m. Monday to a home in the 2700 block of Meadowbrook Drive, according to a police report. The report listed a 52-year-old woman as the victim and said the arrest was a family violence incident.

The woman was bruised on her face and body, police said, according to the Star-Telegram. She told police that Spears hit her multiple times, the newspaper reported.

Spears' attorney, Trent Loftin, said in a statement to the Star-Telegram that Spears was "devastated by the allegations against him. He is a loving husband and father."

"I am sure that once all of the evidence is reviewed, he will be exonerated of all charges," Loftin said.

Spears faces a charge of assault causing bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.

He co-founded the popular Reata restaurant in downtown Fort Worth, as well as Dutch's Hamburgers near TCU and the Horseshoe Hill cafe in the Stockyards. Spears also wrote a cookbook, "The Texas Cowboy Kitchen" and has appeared on several cooking shows, according to his website.
