Fire at DeSoto senior living facility kills one resident, fire department says

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit and extinguish it -- but the resident of the impacted unit died in the fire, officials say.

DESOTO, Texas — A fire at a North Texas senior living facility killed one person Thursday, according to the DeSoto Fire Department.

Late Thursday night, DeSoto firefighters responded to a small fire at a senior living facility on the 2400 block of Bolton Boone Drive in DeSoto.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit and extinguish it, but the resident of the impacted unit died in the fire, officials said.

All other residents at that location were reportedly safe and accounted for within their own units, according to the fire department.

The DeSoto Fire Department said the fire began accidentally, but did not say how. Officials did not provide additional details related to the fire.

Officials also didn't provide the identity of the victim, and said they would not do so until next of kin have been notified.
