Volunteers find body of missing Dallas hiker in New Mexico

Audrey Kaplan, the 75-year-old Dallas woman who went missing while hiking in a New Mexico park last Wednesday, was found dead on Monday.

Audrey Kaplan, the 75-year-old Dallas woman who went missing while hiking in a New Mexico park last Wednesday, was found dead on Monday.

Her body was located about two miles north of the Santa Fe Ski Basin and about one mile northwest of where the hiking trail in the Santa Fe National Forest where she had last been seen.

Kaplan's disappearance triggered a large search effort, with up to 80 law enforcement agents, fire crews, canine units and volunteers out looking for her every day.

'Credit is given to all participating volunteers, as this mission continued through their commitment and dedication to locating Mrs. Kaplan,' the State of New Mexico Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

Kaplan had been hiking and collecting mushrooms with her husband, UT Southwestern Medical Center professor Dr. Norman Kaplan, when she traveled down the Windsor Trail without him.

Officials have not determined the cause of death for Audrey Kaplan.
