Dallas Zoo monorail remains sidelined

DALLAS -- The Dallas Zoo says it hopes to have its Monorail Safari ride back in operation later this week.

Almost 100 passengers aboard the attraction that circles the Wilds of Africa exhibit had to be rescued by Dallas firefighters Saturday afternoon when their train stalled midway through its 20-minute tour.

Zoo spokeswoman Susan Eckert said Monday the cause of the stalled monorail has been traced to an electrical short circuit.

"The Zoo staff is working on repairing the problem and we hope to have the Monorail up and running in a day or two, but it will depend on how repairs go," she said in a written statement.

Saturday's incident was at least the second time the monorail had stalled in mid-ride. In September 2011, more than two dozen people were rescued following a similar breakdown.
