Dallas Animal Services at 143% capacity for dogs, 48% for cats

The shelter says it took in 189 dogs and 71 cats between Friday and Sunday alone.

DALLAS — Dallas Animal Services says it’s looking for people to foster animals after taking in 189 dogs and 71 cats between Friday and Sunday alone.

Dallas Animal Services says they’re at 143% capacity for dogs and 48% capacity for cats.

“Wow, we just cannot catch a break—every time we start to catch our breath and think our capacity is going down, here comes a huge intake weekend to set us back again,” Dallas Animal Services wrote in a social media post. Saturday was especially tough, with 112 dogs showing up in just one day. We now have 428 dogs sharing 300 kennels.”

Also from Friday to Sunday, Dallas Animal Services says 84 dogs and 17 cats were adopted, 38 dogs and 47 cats went to foster homes, 23 dogs and four cats were reunited with their owners, and 20 dogs and nine cats were transferred to rescues.

Dallas Animal Services says they especially need fosters for dogs 40 pounds-plus and orphaned kittens.
