Inside Texas Politics began with a focus on the Dallas Independent School District. This year will be the first time the district will send the State money to distribute to poor school district. Dallas ISD will pay about $64 million in recapture payments. Second Vice-President Joyce Foreman (District 6) and long-time trustee Dr. Lew Blackburn (District 5) discussed this latest development and the changing dynamics on the board. Foreman and Blackburn joined host Jason Whitely and Bud Kennedy from the Star-Telegram.

Mexico elected a new president last week. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, a populist, promised to put Mexico's interests ahead of others. Lopez Obrador is also far left. Senator Ted Cruz has said the election of Lopez Obrador proves the U.S. needs a border wall. Ramsey, co-founder and executive editor of the Texas Tribune, discussed Lopez Obrador's election and what it means to the future of U.S.-Mexico relations. Ross joined host Jason Whitely.

This year’s July 4th holiday turned out to be a busy night for the city of Dallas. Fire trucks were shot at by people throwing illegal fireworks. Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway was in studio to talk about the changes he wants to see before the next July 4th. He also discussed what he just discovered about those new electric scooters for rent in Dallas. Caraway joined host Jason Whitely.

Immigrants seeking asylum is one aspect of separating children that rarely get much discussion. For decades the United States has granted protection to people who are being persecuted. Reporters Roundtable puts the headlines in perspective each week. Host Jason, Bud and Ross returned along with Berna Dean Steptoe, WFAA's political producer. The three talked about Attorney General Ken Paxton’s request to see what Fort Worth is teaching in middle school sex education. They also discussed the growing list of Democrats calling for abolishing ICE and the fact that Senator Ted Cruz and challenger Congressman Beto O’Rourke are still seeking photo-ops this late in the campaign season.
