FORT WORTH -- An iconic Tarrant County restaurant plans to close its doors this October after nearly 60 years in business.

Vance Godbey's will serve it's last dinner on Sunday, Oct. 11.

The building will remain open for private parties and catering, but it will no longer offer the buffet it became known for to the public.

Founder Vance Godbey originally opened the restaurant in 1956.

According to the restaurant's website, it opened "in the middle of nowhere" and the odds of Godbey succeeding were against him. But during Easter of that first year, he opened to a huge crowd and eventually ran out of food.

In 1993, Godbey sold the business to his daughter Carol, who has continued the tradition of first-class customer service ever since.
