Duncanville -- Duncanville has hired one of its own to take over the girls basketball program in the wake of Cathy Self Morgan's retirement and suspension.

LaJeanna Howard, who won state titles as a Pantherette player and coach will be named the new head coach at a school board meeting later today, sources tell WFAA Sports.

She spent the last three years as head coach of the girls' program at Lincoln High School, where she led the Tigers to a state tournament appearance this past season. Lincoln lost to eventual champ Argyle in the semifinal round of the Class 4A tournament.

Howard was an assistant coach on the 2015-2016 Duncanville coach that completed an undefeated 39-0 season culminating with the Class 6A title. Howard played on Duncanville's 5A state title team in 2003.

She takes over after Self-Morgan decided to retire amid an internal probe that led to a three-year suspension.
