Two remaining suspects wanted for kidnapping after couple escaped North Texas Airbnb home taken into custody, police say

The Midlothian Police Department said Jeffrey Stayns Fernando, 22, of Plano, and Akash Tyagi, 22, of were both arrested by officers on Nov. 9.

The remaining two suspects wanted in connection with the October aggravated kidnapping of an elderly couple in Midlothian have been taken into custody, officials said.

The Midlothian Police Department said Jeffrey Stayns Fernando, 22, of Plano, and Akash Tyagi, 22, of Frisco were both arrested by officers on Nov. 9. Those two -- along with 20-year-old Noah Solomon Gulzar, who was arrested Oct. 12 -- now face multiple charges.

The Midlothian Police Department launched their investigation after being were contacted by the DeSoto Police Department on Oct. 9 about a possible kidnapping that occurred in the city of Midlothian.

When Midlothian officers arrived at a home in DeSoto, they met with two victims who said they had escaped from a rental home after being taken by three men.

Investigators determined that the three suspects arrived at the victims’ home in the 5000 block of Vernon Point in Midlothian armed with guns. Police said one of the suspects, Gulzar, was a known acquaintance of the victims -- a 72-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman.

The suspects reportedly took the man and woman by gunpoint and drove them to an Airbnb located in the 600 block of Priscilla Lane in DeSoto, police said. The victims were tied up as the suspect tried to gain access to their online accounts, according to police.

Police said that, after several hours, two of the three suspects left the home. At that point, police said the victims were eventually able to loosen their restraints and subdue the remaining suspect after getting a knife from the kitchen. 

Then, according to police, they fled the home to call 911 from a neighbor’s phone.

After Gulzar’s arrest a couple of days later, police worked to identify the outstanding two suspects, Fernando and Tyagi. Each has since been taken into custody.

Gulzar is facing two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of engaging in organized criminal activity with a deadly weapon and fraudulent use or possession of identifying information – elderly individual, police said.

Both Fernando and Tyagi are facing two counts each of aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon, two counts each of aggravated robbery and one count each of engaging in organized criminal activity with a deadly weapon.

Police said Fernando and Tyagi are currently being held in the Ellis County jail.

“Thank you to the members of our community that offered support and information regarding this case,” the Midlothian Police Department said in a press release.
