DALLAS — The New Year is the mark of new beginnings, but this year, it has been overcome with tragedy for some as three teenagers were shot and killed over the holiday weekend, and a fourth teenager was injured.
Friday just before 5 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting on the 3100 block of Harry Hines Boulevard in Oak Lawn. They said two 14-year-olds had been shot.
On New Year’s Eve, one of the teens died from the injuries. The second is expected to survive from his injuries, according to DPD.
Dallas Police said a 16-year-old male was initially arrested. They said he faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They expect one of those charges will be upgraded to Manslaughter.
Roughly 20 miles away, on Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas Police said they responded to another shooting Saturday afternoon. They found two teenage boys shot inside a car outside the Mountain Creek Branch Library.
Neighbors who wanted to remain anonymous said they saw first responders trying to help one teen. Authorities said a 15-year-old died at the scene, and a 16-year-old was taken to the hospital where he later died as well.
Police sources told WFAA they believe the two teens might have shot each other.
Family members of the 15-year-old wanted to remain private, but they did encourage everyone to spend this holiday with family, surrounded by love and hope.
Dallas police said they would not release the names of the victims due to their ages.
