Suspect arrested after man found fatally shot in the head in Plano street, police say

Officers arrived and tried CPR on the victim, a 43-year-old man who appeared to be shot in the head, police said.

PLANO, Texas — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting of a man who was found in the middle of a Plano street, police say.

At about 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 6, police got a call from a driver who reported that a man was in the middle of the road near P Avenue and Sherwood Drive, in a neighborhood near Jupiter and Parker roads in Plano.

It happened right in front of Maria Castaneda's home. In Spanish she told WFAA she heard one loud shot and immediately after, the sound of a car speeding away.

"I heard the one shot. I was watching the news. When I looked out of my window I did not see anything," Castaneda said.

Officers arrived and tried CPR on the victim, identified as 43-year-old Mohamadou Thera, who appeared to be shot in the head, police said. He was then taken to a hospital, where he died.

Castaneda told WFAA she's lived in the Village Creek neighborhood over 25 years and has never heard or seen anything like this. She does say gunfire has become more common in the last year.

"I feel safe but not as safe as I used to. Police officers asked if I had any cameras but I do not," said Castaneda.

At about 1 p.m. Dec. 7, Plano PD announced officers arrested Plano resident, 21-year-old Jaheim Kemp in Thera's shooting death. Police said he will face a charge of murder.

The department said the shooting is still under investigation and is asking anyone with additional information to call the Crimes Against Persons tip line at 972-941-2148.
